South Korea Makes Digital Nomad Visa Permanent
South Korea has officially made its Digital Nomad Visa, known as the Workcation Visa, a permanent immigration pathway for remote workers employed by overseas companies.
The program allows eligible foreign nationals and their qualifying family members to live in South Korea while continuing to work remotely for their home employer.
Under the permanent scheme, visa holders can stay in the country for up to three years, and recent changes have introduced more flexible income requirements for some applicants, particularly younger individuals and those planning to live outside major metropolitan areas. Applicants must still meet eligibility criteria, including income thresholds, proof of employment, health insurance coverage and a clean criminal record.
The move reflects the growing global demand for remote work options and provides greater flexibility for internationally mobile employees. However, organizations supporting overseas remote work arrangements should continue to assess the immigration, tax and employment compliance implications that may arise.
